Verse 114Awareness
Withdrawing the Senses Inward
Bhairava
This verse teaches a kind of inward closing of the senses and body. When attention turns away from outside inputs, it becomes easier to notice the quiet awareness that is always present. The goal is to recognize yourself not as the body, but as the timeless reality behind it.
सम्कोचं कर्णयोः कृत्वा ह्यधोद्वारे तथैव च । अनच्कमहलं ध्यायविशेद्ब्रह्म सनातनम् ॥ ११४ ॥
saṃkocaṃ karṇayoḥ kṛtvā hy adhodvāre tathāiva ca | anacakam ahaṃ dhyāyec chuddhaṃ brahma sanātanam || 114 ||
Translation
Having contracted the ears and likewise the lower opening, one should meditate on the uncaused self as the eternal, pure Brahman.
Withdraw sensory and bodily openings inward and contemplate the uncaused Self as eternal Brahman.
