Verse 146Awareness
Formless Steady Meditation
Bhairava
Meditation here is described as a steady mind that doesn’t cling to pictures or props. It is not about making up an image of the body or forcing the mind to imagine shapes. Instead, it is about resting in clear, still awareness.
ध्यानं वह वनश्चला िुवद्धवनधराकारा वनराश्रया । न तु ध्यानं शरीरावक्षमुखहस्तावदकल्पना ॥ १४६ ॥
dhyānaṃ hi niścalā buddhir nirākārā nirāśrayā | na tu dhyānaṃ śarīrāvakṣa-mukha-hastādi-kalpanā || 146 ||
Translation
Meditation is the unmoving intellect, formless and without support; meditation is not an imagination of the chest, face, hands, and so on of the body.
The verse defines meditation as nonconceptual, formless stability rather than visualizing bodily images.
