Beyond Bondage and Liberation
Bhairava
This verse says that bondage and liberation are labels that can scare the mind, but they do not define the deepest reality. What you experience as life’s ups and downs are like the sun reflected in clear water: vivid, yet not the sun itself. The practice is to see through the reflection and rest in what does not change.
vijñāna-bhairava-tantram | na me bandho na mokṣo me bhītasyaitā vibhīṣikāḥ | pravṛtti-bimbam idam śuddhe jḍareṣv iva vivasvat || 135 ||
Translation
For me there is no bondage and no liberation; these are terrors for the fearful. This is but a reflection of activity, like the sun in pure waters.
To transcend fear-based ideas of bondage and liberation by resting in the ever-free nature of consciousness.
