Gaze into the Chosen Void

Bhairava

This verse suggests resting your gaze on a still point, like the top of a mountain or a quiet peak. By holding attention there, the mind gradually becomes less busy. When the inner image dissolves, thoughts lose their fuel.

niruddha-śikharāvalambitād deśe dṛṣṭiṃ vinikṣipet | vilīne mānase bhāve vṛttikṣīṇaṃ prajāyate || 60 ||

Translation

One should cast the gaze into a place supported by a restrained peak or summit; when the mental state has dissolved, the fluctuations become exhausted. || 60 ||

Place attention in a fixed open location so the mind-state dissolves and mental fluctuations wear out.
