Verse 59Space

Gazing Through the Empty Vessel

Bhairava

Think of staring at the inside of a pot: the verse says to break that habit of looking at things as solid containers. Let your attention fall beyond the object, into open space. When the mind lands there, it can merge with that openness.

घटावदभाजने दृवष्टं वभवत्तस्त्यक्त्वा विवनवक्षपेत् । तल्लयं तत्क्षणाद्गत्वा तल्लयात्तन्मयो भवेत् ॥ ५९ ॥

ghaṭādibhājane dṛṣṭiṃ bhittvā tyaktvā vinikṣipet | tallayaṃ tatkṣaṇād gatvā tallayāt tanmayo bhavet || 59 ||

Translation

Having broken the gaze that rests in a pot or vessel and having cast it beyond, one should let it fall there; by reaching that dissolution instantly, one becomes identified with that dissolution. || 59 ||

Break fixation on bounded forms and throw the gaze into the open so awareness becomes one with dissolution itself.
