Breath Rising and Falling as Source
Bhairava
This verse points to the flow of breath and life-energy. If you can notice the upward and downward movement without chasing it, there is a place of balance and stillness. The practice is to rest in that stable middle rather than following every movement.
ūrdhve prāṇo hy adho jīvo visargātmā paroccaret | utpattividhyavasthāne bharanād bhavataḥ sthitiḥ || 24 ||
Translation
Upward is prāṇa, downward is jīva; the one whose nature is emission (visarga) moves beyond. In the station of arising and sustaining, there is your abiding through filling.
Attend to the upward and downward movements of life-force and rest in the sustaining point between them.
